The life of the church hangs on the word of God (Matt.4:4). We believe that God’s word is complete in the Old and the New Testaments. We do not need to add any words to what already has been recorded in the Bible. Everyone who desires to know God’s word must realize what God’s Word is. If he or she does not know what God’s Word is, he cannot be a beneficiary and minister of His word. One of the most dangerous things about being a hearer of the word and not a doer of it is that you can easily delude yourself into thinking that hearing is enough. There is the hearer and then there is the hearer who is also a doer. Where do you belong?
The ministry of the Word in our lives does not stop when we come to Christ. It only begins there. James 1:18 says that “in the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth -that is the message of salvation”. God calls us just the way we are, but He does not leave us the way we are. He has called us in order to change us. Just as the calling comes through the Word, so also the changing comes through the Word. That means the study of God’s Word is not an end in itself. It is a means to a greater end.
It is that the Word may be received and applied in your life. If you are a Christian, then you know some things about God. But that knowledge is not to remain dormant. It is to have a practical outworking. Receiving the Word is an ongoing Process: But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger (1:19).

One of the distinctive of Christianity is that we have a God who has spoken. We believe that we could not know God except that He first made Himself known to us. As believers, we place a high value on the Word of God. It is through belief in God's Word that we are saved (Rom 10.17). God's Word then becomes our guide for life in every circumstance whether it be in employment, in social life, in the family circle or in assembly practice. Our aspiration should be to live by the Word of God. Our purpose for reading the Word of God is to learn what is in it with a view to DOING what we have learnt.
Discipline yourself to read the Word of God. Your flesh will oppose your plan to read, but you have to overcome the work of the flesh through self-discipline. We must consciously as believers be alert to hear what God is saying to us. God is constantly speaking to us; it is our responsibility to hear Him when He speaks. For every Christian, it’s really vital that you know how to study the Bible that you are able to dig into God’s Word for yourself, to gain all of the tremendous riches that are there. The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” –Heb. 4:12, The Word of God is the No. 1 weapon God has given you to win in life. When applied correctly, it can solve any problem—financial disaster, chronic illness, crumbling marriage, broken relationship, political unrest… anything!

Every believer wants to grow in faith. The best way, to grow in faith is by spending time in the word of GOD. This is because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17). Our faith grows when we do personal study of the word of God and hearing the word being proclaimed.
We are always in a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:12). We have victory over the enemy through the word of God. It equips us and makes us strong for the battle.
In this Brigade Sunday the Word of God is reminding us that we can advance against a troop and scale a wall with God's help (Psalm 18:29). Many are the troops coming to us with the aim of destroying us. Many are the walls standing high before us. We have to stand firm on the promises of God.
Our children need the word of God. The first responsibility begins at home. Parents make great teachers and children are great students. This is because children are like a sponge. They soak in whatever they are exposed to, good or bad. Early exposure to the Word of never disappears. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it (Proverbs 22:6). Parish Minister

God has revealed himself in His word. The knowledge and understanding of the word help a Christian to know what the Lord says. All Christians are called to careful study of the Word of God. John 8:31-32 reminds Christians that, “if you know my word, you are my disciple. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The consummation of the word of God is Christ Himself. Christ is the word of God. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God. The old and the New Testament gives a context of the eternal word made flesh in Jesus Christ the Saviour of mankind. Therefore a careful study of the word of God leads a Christian to get the unfolding of the salvation story.
The essence of the word of God is the divine breath, the spirit, and the life and Christ who is God Himself. God’s word is God breathing out. We should breathe in this word. This becomes our life. This is because the word of God is full of spiritual breath. We must not only understand the word in our mind but also contact the word with our spirit. If we do this we gain life here on earth and beyond.
